  • Description of The Raven:
The first of three world-class wooden roller coasters that operate at Holiday World & Splashin Safari. Known fondly by many as "Raven Air" and this roller coaster is the perfect example of Custom Coaster's ability to deliver a #1 ride without the need to be the longest or tallest ride in the world. Famous for its incredible night rides, Raven perfectly follows the wooded terrain along Lake Rudolph providing many unexpected turns and plenty of airtime throughout. Since its debut in 1995, Raven has consistently ranked as one of the top wooden coasters in the world by coaster enthusiasts and has been featured on a number of Discovery Channel television specials.
    The Experience on The Raven:
There's nowhere to stand in Holiday World to get a feel for the layout, because nearly the entire ride is hidden in the woods. There's a 120-foot tunnel, 85-foot and 61-foot drops, swooping turn over Lake Rudolph, and a double-banked curve at bottom of the fifth hill. And after experiencing The Raven in the dark, you'll want to ride it "Evermore!" Edgar Allan Poe, the author of "The Raven," died mysteriously on October 3, 1849. The final approval for naming The Raven Roller Coaster was made 145 years later... to the day.
    Accidents on The Raven:
On May 31, 2003, 32-year-old Tamar Fellner of New York City, New York died after falling out of the The Raven roller coaster during the ride's 69-foot drop. Witnesses told investigator s they saw Fellner standing up in the car as it neared the drop. An investigation after the accident showed that Fellner's seat restraints were working correctly and no mechanical deficiencies were found on the coaster. The coroner's office ruled Fellner's death as accidental. However in 2005, Fellner's family members filed lawsuits against both Holiday World and the Philadelphia Toboggan Company; the manufacturer of the coaster trains. The lawsuits were settled out of court in 2007. Terms of the settlements were undisclosed.
